What Does TUV Rheinland Certificate Mean?
TUV Rheinland Certificates certify the safety standard compliance and qualifications of products, management systems, manufacturing processes, and personnel.
Certificates are issued by TUV Rheinland AG, a technical test service and certification organization headquartered in Cologne, Germany, with additional offices in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
TUVs are German consulting businesses that specialize in certifying compliance with various recognized safety and qualification standards. TUV stands for Technischer Überwachungsverein (Technical Inspection Association). TUV Rheinland is the largest of the three major TUVs in Germany and the most globally recognized. TUV Rheinland Certificates are applied to a variety of safety-relevant areas, including individual products, management systems, IT processes, functional safety systems, personnel qualifications, and complete companies. Their accreditation for product testing includes a wide variety of products, such as office machines, IT applications, interior lighting, construction equipment, and individual components such as capacitors.
TUV Rheinland certificates are globally recognized certification bodies accredited by a variety of national standards organizations, such as the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). As such, TUV Rheinland certificates provide a method for regulatory industries and contracting companies to verify the authenticity of a company’s safety claims by independently confirming their certification in the TUV Rheinland database.
Personnel, companies, and products use certification and associated certification product marks to advertise their rule compliance with occupational safety standards and to gain access to markets that require a safety certification for a product or service. Certification of personnel, manufacturing, and management processes may reduce employer liability by providing a neutral assessment of an acceptable occupational safety standard.
As a member of the International Federation of Inspection Agencies, TUV Rheinland’s own compliance with the standards governing safety certification bodies is regularly audited by a third party. The TUV Rheinland certification scheme follows the International Standards Organization / International Electrotechnical Commission standard ISO/IEC 17067:2013, which defines the international guidelines for recognized certification schemes.
